Lenovo sees +23% increase in PC Shipments across EMEA despite overall decline for top ten vendors in Q4 2012

CONTEXT Research Update 2 28th January 2013 (London, UK): Preliminary results from CONTEXT’s PC Shipments data show that the top ten vendors* in the EMEA PC market registered a year-on-year decline of -11% in Q4 2012. This decline can be explained in part by continued weak economic conditions across the region, but also by demand for Windows 8 not having met expectations.

However, Lenovo continued to show strong growth, with an increase in unit shipments of +23% for the period. This can be attributed to Lenovo's specific targeting of the retail sector across the region, which resulted in strong consumer sales among its Desktop and Notebook products.

Of the other main vendors, market leader HP managed a lesser decline than the market due to a solid performance in its commercial Desktops category. Acer, ASUS and Dell all saw weaker results for Q412, albeit Dell experienced growth in the UK with its Desktop products and in Turkey across all product categories.
