Lenovo Places Purchasing Orders worth US$3.26 Billion with Taiwan Makers

Lenovo signed procurement contracts with a number of Taiwan-based PC, monitor and component players for a total value of US$3.26 billion on August 24.

The agreements include US$1 billion for Wistron, US$700 million for Quanta Computer, US$600 million for Compal Electronics, US$400 million for AU Optronics (AUO), US$200 million for Foxconn Electronics, US$150 million for TPV Technology, US$120 million for Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), US$80 million for Asia Vital Components (AVC) and US$5 million for VIA Technologies, according to the government-sponsored Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

Lenovo vice president Du Jianhua pointed out that the purchases will all be completed in near future, while total PC shipments for 2009 will surpass 20 million units.

Another China-based PC vendor Hasee also announced purchases during a recent trip to Taiwan, which include US$289 million for Quanta, Pegatron Technology, and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), and US$80 million for AUO.
