Acer and Asustek Computer both expect their performance in the second quarter to stay flat sequentially as consumers are delaying their notebook purchases until the release of Windows 10 in the third quarter of the year. While Asustek is optimistic about its notebook sales in the second half of the year, Acer remains conservative.

Asustek expects shipments of notebooks, desktops and tablets to slip from 4.8 million units, 600,000 units and 1.5 million units, respectively, in the first quarter to 4.5 million units, 500,000 units and 1.2 million units in the second, but smartphone shipments will rise from three million to 4.8 million units. Asustek posted net EPS of NT$4.96 for the first quarter, its lowest quarterly level since the third quarter of 2011.

Acer expects PC shipments in 2015 to remain flat on year and will focus marketing on 2-in-1 and gaming notebooks, tablets and AIO (all-in-one) PCs.
