Samsung ranks number one in global flat-panel TV market in 2011

Market research indicated that 2011 global flat-panel TV shipments reached 222 million units, up 7.5% on year. In particular, Samsung accounted for 20% of the market share, ranking at number one. LG accounted for 13% while Sony accounted for 9%. The total market share of China's top six TV brands was 21%, up from 17% in 2010.

Studies showed that shipments of LCD TVs from China-based firms in 2011 grew by 34% on average due to growth in the domestic market. Shipments from TCL reached 9.4 million units, up by 75% on year. TCL shipments are expected to surpass 10 million units in 2012. Samsung and LG shipments grew by 12% and 6% on year respectively. Sony showed an on-year decrease of 6%. Toshiba, Sharp, Panasonic all reached shipments above 10 million unit.
Market observers believe South Korea will continue to dominate the market in 2012 while China will continue its growth. Japan's TV industry will face tough competitions.
