Touchscreen notebooks to become focus of Lenovo for 2013

As Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing has recently announced that the company is aiming to achieve shipments of 100 million IT products for 2013, sources from the upstream supply chain expect touchscreen notebooks to become the major focus of the company in the year.

Lenovo Touch Ultrabook CES2012 081 The company is set to host a supply chain conference on May 28 in Hefei, China and is expected to announce its mass production target at that time.

Since Lenovo is mainly adopting glass film film-type (GFF-based) touch panel for its products, China-based O-Film is one of its major touch panel suppliers, while Taiwan-based Youngfast, Jtouch and Mutto Optronics are also its suppliers.

Currently, GFF-type touch panels enjoy lower costs compared to OGS-type ones and the GFF panels' complete supply chain also allows them to have a more stable supply than OGS-type ones. However, GFF panels' disadvantage in terms of thickness still means most brand vendors will adopt OGS panels for their devices.
