NETGEAR Wideband Modem Receives DOCSIS 3.0 Certification from CableLabs

High-Speed, Versatile DOCSIS 3.0-Compliant CMD31T Cable Modem Joins Portfolio of NETGEAR Products Meeting CableLabs Specifications.

NETGEAR(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR - News) today announced that its CMD31T Cable Modem received DOCSIS(R) 3.0 certification in CableLabs(R) Certification Wave 60. DOCSIS 3.0 specifies support for at least four downstream and four upstream channels. The resulting data rates of up to 160 Mbps downstream and 120 Mbps upstream enable cable operators to provide optimum Internet service and the most advanced offerings available to residential and small to medium-sized business customers.

"This Certification is a significant milestone for NETGEAR and its cable customers," said David James, director of product management for NETGEAR. "This follows several years of effort on the part of NETGEAR, cable operators and our key technology suppliers to move broadband data to new performance heights. Were thrilled to now provide the DOCSIS 3.0-certified CMD31T to our cable operator customers worldwide, as it offers strategic performance advantage in the face of telco and ISP competition."

NETGEARs DOCSIS 3.0-certified CMD31T Cable Modem enables service providers to offer unprecedented speeds on a Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) broadband network. The cost-effective wideband modem bonds four channels in each direction to deliver usable downstream data rates of up to four times that of DOCSIS 2.0 technology. Such speeds enable MSOs to offer a compelling alternative to ADSL2+, VDSL and fiber deployments.
The dynamic CMD31T modem is future-proof with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and is also backwards compatible with DOCSIS 2.0, DOCSIS 1.1 and DOCSIS 1.0. The CMD31T supports remote management and provisioning, simple plug-in installation, and post-installation manageability with Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). It offers both a USB 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet port so users can take full advantage of their high-speed WAN connections.

David James continued, "DOCSIS 3.0 marks the beginning of a new era for cable data services, as affordable channel bonding will enable new real-time and narrowcast applications to emerge. With NETGEARs flexible product architecture and the CMD31T modem, were confident our customers will soon deploy new services and applications that can only be delivered via the high performance of DOCSIS 3.0."

NETGEARs DOCSIS 3.0-certified CMD31T Cable Modem joins a growing portfolio of CableLabs-Certified(R) NETGEAR products that enable cable operators to continue offering advanced home networking services subscribers. More information on NETGEARs products can be found at: http://www.netgear.com.
