LG Display (LGD) announced today that the company has developed a Trumotion 480Hz LCD TV panel, which has an 480 refresh rate per second.

LGDs scanning backlight technology enables a backlight to be repeatedly turned on and off to reduce motion blur. Combining the companys scanning backlight technology and 240 Hz technology, the display can refresh 480 images per second.

The Trumotion 480Hz display boasts a motion picture response time (MPRT) of 4 ms. It can also reduce energy consumption by adjusting the backlight brightness.

The panel will start shipping in the second half of 2009, according to the companys executive vice president and head of LGD TV business, Eddie Yeo. 


LGD will showcase its latest display technologies featuring improved MPRT, eco-friendly displays and others during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2009.
