Shipments of ultrabooks, ultra-like models to double in 2013, say Taiwan makers

digitimes Shipments of ultrabooks and ultra-like notebooks are expected to double in 2013 as compared to the previous year as brand vendors are adjusting their product mix to cope with falling market demand, according to industry sources.

Vendors are shifting more capacity to ultrabooks and ultra-like models as consumers are seeking products with more value-added, the sources noted, adding that declining prices will also help ramp up ultrabook sales.

Ultrabooks will account for 10% of global notebook shipments in 2013, and ultra-like ones will make up another 10%, the sources estimated.

In Taiwan, Dell launched recently a 14-inch ultrabook targeting the business sector. Dell claimed that the model has received a MIL-STD810G certification.
