New notebook models to boost shipments in 2Q13

Notebook brand vendors are expected to see strong sequential shipment growth in the second quarter due to launches of their new Haswell-based models, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Toshiba is expected to enjoy a 42% on-quarter growth in the second quarter, followed by Asustek Computer with 41%, Hewlett-Packard (HP) 30%, Apple 26%, Lenovo 20%, Dell 19% and Acer 10%, the sources noted citing the vendors' projections.

The sources expect the notebook industry to achieve a shipment ratio of 45:55 for the first and second halves of 2013, respectively with Lenovo to surpass HP and become the largest notebook brand vendor worldwide in terms of shipments.

Intel is set to launch its Haswell-based processors in June, and related PC products are expected to become spotlights at Computex 2013 to be hosted in the same month.
