Lenovo expected to ship 1.8 million tablets in 3Q13

China-based Lenovo shipped 1.5 million tablets to rank fourth among international vendors in the second quarter of 2013 based on IDC statistics, and is expected to ship 1.8 million units in the third quarter, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

In the third quarter, Apple, Samsung Electronics and Asustek Computer will remain the top-three tablet vendors worldwide, but since Asustek's second-generation Nexus 7 is seeing weaker-than-expected sales, the Taiwan-based vendor's shipment gap with number-four Lenovo is expected to narrow.

With the release of its new tablets such as the IdeaTab S5000, Lenovo is expected to continue achieving shipment growth in the fourth quarter.

Currently, Lenovo's smartphone and tablet businesses contribute about 14% of the company's total revenues, and the company expects the percentage to rise to 50% by 2016. Lenovo is aiming to ship 10 million tablets in its fiscal 2013.
