Samsungs First 40nm DRAM Gets Intel Certification

South Korean conglomerate Samsung has proudly announced that it has made and validated, the first DRAM chip built using 40nm technology.

Certified by Intel for use with the GM45 mobile chipset, the 40nm DRAM is a 1Gb DDR2 chip that supports a data transfer rate of up to 800Mbps.

"Securing extremely advanced technology and system/platform validated operability underscores our commitment as technology leader to deploying the most efficient means of producing DRAM in the marketplace," said Kevin Lee, vice president, technical marketing, Samsung Semiconductor.

According to Samsung, the 40nm node is expected to enable an increase in productivity of 60% and a drop in power consumption of 30% compared to 50nm technology.
