NETGEAR ReadyNAS 2100 Offers 1U, 4-bay Storage

NETGEAR has announced the ReadyNAS 2100, the newest edition to its ReadyNAS product line. The ReadyNAS 2100 is a 1U 4-bay storage system that enables businesses to securely share, store and protect business-critical files across a LAN or WAN, and guard against disk failures. The unit includes an enterprise-grade hard drive and Error Correction Code RAM to help provide security. The device features Intel-based chips, which the company claims makes the product, the ReadyNAS 1100, two times faster than its predecessor.

Other features include the X-CHANGE rapid system board module which packages the system board, power supply and cooling fans into a 12-inch deep module for a smaller footprint and easier storage. NETGEAR believes the ReadyNAS 2100 is also more energy efficient due to its smart power management options that reduce the amount of idle drive spin-down time and result in overall power consumption of less then 80 watts.

The ReadyNAS 2100 offers file and application service support for Windows, Linux, and Mac systems. Using its RAIDiator operating system, the ReadyNAS 2100 also supports Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), making it compatible with Time Machine backup in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Additionally, the unit includes the ReadyNAS Remote feature which enables users to drag and drop files over a secure connection between any Mac or Windows computer anywhere in the world.

The ReadyNAS 2100 with 2TB and 4TB of storage will be released in early June. A second model with 8TB of storage will be released later in the year, according to the company.
