Asustek aims at becoming top vendor of Android tablet PCs in 2H12

Asustek Computer has set a challenging goal of attaining the largest global market share for Android-based tablet PCs in the second half of 2012, company CEO Jerry Shen has told a recent investors conference.

Asustek will launch Windows 8 table PCs as well in the third quarter of 2012, Shen said. Zenbook, Asustek's ultrabook series, has accounted for 10% of the total notebook shipments and the proportion is expected to reach 10-20% by the end of 2012, Shen indicated.

Asustek recorded consolidated revenues of NT$90.912 billion (US$3.08 billion), gross margin of 13.9%, net operating profit of NT$4.74 billion, net profit of NT$5.005 billion and net earnings per share (EPS) of NT$6.65 for the first quarter of 2012.
