Samsung makes first 4Gb DDR3 chip

By using the 50nm process technology, South Korean conglomerate Samsung has been able to break the density record for DDR3 DRAM and manufacture the worlds first 4Gb chip.

Operating at 1.35V and reaching a top speed of 1.6 Gbps, the low-power 4Gb DDR3 DRAM can be used to make 16GB registered memory modules for servers and 8GB modules for desktops and notebooks, and, by taking advantage of dual-die package technology, it can even be built into 32GB modules.

Unfortunately Samsung went on to celebrate its DDR3 record without mentioning when the 4Gb chip will actually enter mass production.
