Toshiba Intros Photo Frames with WiFi

In Europe, Toshiba has presented a pair of Wi-Fi-capable digital photo frames as part of its new JournE Air range.

The JournE Air 1000 is the flagship, offering a 10-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio LCD-backlit screen with 1GB of internal memory and a memory card slot for expansion. It also has a pair of 0.5W speakers and an online connection for playing Internet radio stations with 50 presets for SHOUTcast MP3 streams. A touch sensor replaces old-fashioned buttons for a clean design, or users can use the standard infrared remote control.

The JournE Air 1000 also has a built-in tilt sensor that auto rotates and resizes photos automatically. An integrated battery provides up to 30 minutes of back-up life when the frame is unplugged from a wall socket. Rounding out the features is a calendar, clock and alarm functionality.

The smaller JournE Air 801 sports an 8.4-inch, 4:3 screen and 128MB of internal storage space, though a memory card slot is included for expansion. The same alarm clock and calendar of the bigger frame are present, though there are full touch controls and Sub-View and 3D Album functions. The former extends users desktops via a USB cable connection, while the latter lets users pair up images with sound bytes. The same back-up battery gives this frame an extra 50 minutes of life.

Either frame has a built-in RSS reader, letting them pull down feeds from the Internet and display them, or synchronize with users Picasa or Flickr accounts.
Toshiba said the JournE Air frames will ship to Europe, the Middle East and Africa during the 1st quarter of the year.
